Rules of the RSL

Welcome to the Russian State Library – a national library of the Russian Federation!

Have you got your Reader Pass?

We recommend searching the Electronic Catalogue and ordering documents to a Reading Room before your visit. Ordered documents will be waiting for you on a reservation shelf by the specified time.

Please deposit the following items in the cloakroom upon entry:

• Printed materials, CD-ROMs

• Outer clothing

• Hand luggage larger than 30×40×20 cm

• Correction fluid, sharp objects (scissors, knives, etc.), adhesive tape.

Change of shoes and wet umbrellas must be placed in bags and kept closed.

You can obtain a transparent bag from the cloakroom for carrying essential items into the library.

Automated luggage lockers are available in the Main Building. A Reader Pass is required to use them.

Please observe Rules of the RSL, maintain public order, and treat the library's collections with care.

Network name: RSL_WIFI_READERS

Login: Your Reader Pass number (for example: 300000111111)

Password: The same password you use to log in to your personal account.

By default, the password is your date of birth (ddmmyyyy)

You can connect with only one device at a time

On personal computers (PCs), readers have access to:

  • RSL electronic resources, including the Electronic Catalogue, the Electronic Library, and licensed online resources of the RSL, as well as access to the electronic catalogue and electronic documents of the National Digital Library

  • Wide-ranging access to:

    • Scientific and educational internet resources;

    • Search engines, email services, news sites and other online services;

    • Websites of government organisations, cultural and arts institutions;

    • Portals for major projects and programmes, etc.

All PCs are equipped with office software, an electronic magnifier and a screen reader for visually impaired users.

Access to a wide range of free services and additional paid services.
