Catalogues

The Russian State Library holds more than 50 million domestic and foreign documents. To find what you need, a system of catalogues is available: the Electronic Catalogue (EC), card alphabetical and systematic catalogues.


Electronic catalogue
Electronic catalogue

Contains information about all types of documents in the RSL library collection on physical and electronic media, including: books, journals, newspapers, audio recordings, art publications, music scores, maps, rare and valuable publications, dissertations, manuscripts, deposited documents in Russian and other languages from various chronological periods

Image Catalogues
Image Catalogues

Scanned copies of parts of the card General Alphabetical Catalogue of books in the languages of the peoples of Russia, in foreign languages, as well as periodicals of the Russian emigration in foreign European languages.

Searching in the Image Catalogue is carried out by the name of the GAC catalogue drawer, as well as by the dividers inside it. The search result is a digital image of the catalogue card. It is possible to place an electronic order for a document from the Central Book Repository.

The Image Catalogue performs an auxiliary information function, contains incomplete data and is in trial operation

Card Catalogues of Specialised Departments

contain information about various documents – maps, music publications, audio recordings, art publications, newspapers, dissertations, manuscripts, rare books, documents in Oriental languages that form part of the collections of the specialised departments

General Systematic Catalogue (GSC)
General Systematic Catalogue (GSC)

A card catalogue that systematically records information about printed books, periodicals and serials by subject area in Russian and other languages of the peoples of Russia, and in foreign European languages from the 17th century to 2015. It provides the most complete information about the contents of the Central Book Repository collection.

The catalogue cards are organised by subject area according to the Library and Bibliographic Classification (LBC).

Readers can consult the catalogue by asking a bibliographer in Room A-325 on the 3rd floor of the Main Building

General Alphabetical Catalogue (GAC)
General Alphabetical Catalogue (GAC)

The GAC is a service alphabetical card catalogue recording information about books, journals and serials across all subject areas in Russian and other languages of the peoples of Russia, and in foreign European languages from the 18th century to 2015. It provides the most complete information about the contents of the Central Book Repository collection.

Readers can obtain assistance with the GAC by asking a bibliographer in Room A-325 on the 3rd floor of the Main Building
